Meeting Jo Malone

One of the most exciting things to happen to me in my business life, (and my private life) was meeting Jo Malone.

I was at Stylist Live in 2016 and we had taken a stand there. I had my amazing Saturday man (Tom Short Flicks, who also makes our videos) on the stand on the Saturday morning and arrived about lunchtime. I was busy chatting to a customer, who had accidently spilled her drink on the stand. No biggie, I was just mopping the floor with some paper, on my hands and needs and I hear ‘You must be Hannah, Hello Hannah’. I stand up to see a beautiful, blonde haired lady in front of me. I was thinking, oh, I sort of recognise you, are you a school Mum? Maybe we’ve been networking before? I couldn’t quite place the face.

Anyway, she starts talking to me about how she loves the stand and the neon lights, and I notice that she has a team of people around her, all scribbling away in books, whilst she’s talking to me. She asks me about Tom, and how he had explained to her that morning, what we do, why we do it and had told her all about me. She tells me he is an asset (he is) and asks about juggling motherhood and work. Then she says, “Well, I would love to commission you to make me a sign for my Jo Loves Elizabeth Street shop”

And the penny drops. This is Jo Malone, she is talking to me, and internally I cant get my brain to focus, as its just going on a loop, ‘It’s Jo Malone, Jo Malone is talking to me, Jo Malone, JO MALONE’

She takes over and says shall we take a picture, I can’t really remember detail after this, but you can see from the picture that I am hugging her! Poor woman! She must have thought what a nutter!

Anyway, she says her people will be in touch and she’s gone. Just like that.

I think I cried a bit, called my husband and best friends and just felt like I was on top of the world.

Jo was warm, encouraging, kind and really beautiful, inside and out.

My kids still boast to their friends about it, and it was honestly one of the best days of my life.

So if you’re ever doubting starting up on your own, take that journey, because all journeys have lows, but the highs, the highs are the stuff dreams are made of.

Please do get in touch if you want us to make you a bespoke neon sign for your home or business.
